Maulana Azad Library organises national seminar on ‘E-Resources and E-Access for Study, Teaching and Research’

Vplnews, Aligarh, August 12: The Mulana Azad Library of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) today celebrated the Librarian’s Day by hosting a National Seminar at the Cultural Hall on ‘E-Resources and E-Access for Study, Teaching and Research’. Maulana Azad Library had organised the seminar in collaboration with the Department of Library and Information Science, AMU and Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centres (IASLIC).

EBESCO Discovery Service and Web of Science have sponsored the programme.

Delivering the inaugural address, AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor said that the administration is determined to support the M A Library and soon the seating capacity of library will be increased.

He pointed out that the administration is also committed in further improving the reading rooms of residential halls and libraries of various departments and faculties. “This will help in decreasing the congestion in M A Library,” said the Vice Chancellor.

The Vice Chancellor also pointed out that he is in touch with the University of California and soon the university will sign a MoU with the M A Library, which will be followed by a very useful collaboration.

Prof Mansoor further said that most of the campus has WIFI and the remaining part has internet connected with wires. “In a period of three to four months, the whole campus will have WIFI services, which will be huge benefit for teachers and students,” said the Vice Chancellor.

Dr Nabi Hasan, Librarian, M A Library spoke on the works of Padmashree Dr S R Ranganthan, father of Library Science in India on whose birth anniversary, the Librarian’s Day is celebrated.

Dr Hasan informed the audience that this seminar is another step to fulfil the Vice-Chancellor’s dream to make AMU reach the number one ranking among Indian universities.

Dr G Mahesh (Guest of Honour and Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR New Delhi) highlighted the importance of scholarly publications especially Journals.

Mr Ritesh from Ebsco spoke about Single Window Search Discovery Services and Dr Subhashree delivered presentation on Web of Science, the highest used research database.

Dr Sudharma Haridasan, Prof Naushad and Mr Mustafa Zaidi also delivered presentations.

Prof. Sabir Husain was the Special Guest on the occasion. Mr Asif Fareed Siddiqui conducted the programme and Ms Asma Khan proposed the vote of thanks.
