Vplnews, Aligarh, April 16: At a time when road construction and housing projects have become dependent on costly materials such as sand, cement and steel; Aligarh Muslim University’s M Tech student from the Department of Civil Engineering, Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology, Mohammad Junaid Khan’s paper, ‘Behaviour of Soil-Fly Ash Layered Matrix Under Cyclic Loading’ gives a fresh perspective on use of less expensive material with cost-effective structure.

Junaid was given the ‘Young Geotechnical Engineer Best Paper Award: Runner-Up’ with a cash prize of Euro 100 by the prestigious Springer Publishers at a symposium organised by the Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) in association with Delhi Chapter of IGS, IIT Delhi and TC 202 (Technical Committee of Transportation and Geotechnics) of International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering in New Delhi. His paper explores utilizing 50 percent of fly ash and reducing 50 to 75 percent costs of rail-road embankment constructions.

Prof Mehboob Anwer Khan (In-charge, Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory) said that Junaid’s paper is innovative and has high levels of creativity and is reflective of excellence and best practices in research.

Junaid is working as a Junior Research Fellow under the guidance and supervision of Prof Mehboob Anwer Khan and he has also carried the research for the paper under Prof Khan at the Geotechnical Engineering Section, Department of Civil Engineering, AMU.
