AMU: Indian Vice Pres felicitates JNMC Prof for framing CPR guidelines

Vplnews, Aligarh, January 14: Prof S Moied Ahmed, Chairman, Dept of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was felicitated by India Vice President, Mr M Venkaiah Naidu during a special function in Vijayawada for framing the Indian Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
He also released a manual for Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), jointly developed by a team of Department of Anaesthesiology, JNMC and AIIMS, New Delhi consultants.
During the felicitation ceremony, the Vice President, Mr Naidu appreciated Prof Ahmed’s contributions saying that his work is a part of ‘Make in India’ project on the vision of the Indian Prime Minister.
“The Indian CPR guidelines will change life styles and make CPR training necessary,” pointed Indian Vice President.
Talking about the need of framing CPR guidelines in Indian context, Prof Ahmed said, “We use to follow the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines, which didn’t suited people in India as the training programme was expensive and skills were difficult to acquire particularly in rural areas.”
He added that India needed easy to learn, inexpensive and accessible to all kind of guidelines. “The Indian Resuscitation Council (IRC) under Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists stepped ahead to frame Indian CPR guidelines with a vision to provide every household with a saviour,” said Prof Ahmed emphasising that Indian CPR guidelines are unique and tailor made for target groups in India.
